Three Grade 12 Thomasians are presenting their research and product at the University of the Philippines College of Engineering ALCHEMES Research Fair 2024, today, February 1, in Diliman, Quezon City.
Mel Tiffany Auman, Bea Dacula, Kristine Anne Lozano, all of section NSS, are to present the paper “Sugarcane (Gramineae Saccharum Officinarum L.) Fibers with Papaya (Papain) Enzymes as Substrates for a Water-resistant Paper Bag Production.” The paper, which targets to up-cycle discarded sugarcane fibers, a raw material that is abundant in the whole of Negros, was shortlisted for the Research Fair among 24 other papers last January 2024. There were a total of 64 entries that competed for a chance to join and present in the esteemed Research Fair at Diliman.
Other Thomasian delegates who will be participating in the Youth Science Convention are Azeila Louise Briones, Zenaida Mae Catalan, Zyann Libuit (all from Grade10-SMAT), Elchin Jan Lim, Christian Lloyd Villador, Vangel Mae Villanueva (all from Grade 12-NSS).
With the students are their research advisers and chaperons namely, Jan Mari Cupang (ABM and BS Entrepreneurship instructor) Maria Cindy Gabutas (quality assurance officer) and Stephanie Remada (research officer).
UP ALCHEMES or the University of the Philippines Academic League of Chemical Engineering Students Inc. is an academic organization that is mainly composed of undergraduate students of UP Diliman’s Chemical Engineering program. It was established in 1999.
