After a nerve-wracking presentation, twelfth-grade Thomasian researchers are now gearing up to defend their research at the Closed-Door Defense of the UP ALCHEMES Research Fair under the Applied Science Category.

The concept of re-purposing agricultural waste, that is sugarcane fiber or locally called bagaso, impressed the panel of judges during the presentation of Mel Tiffany Auman, Bea Dacula, Kristine Anne Lozano, from section NSS.

The Thomasian paper entitled “Sugarcane (Gramineae Saccharum Officinarum L.) Fibers with Papaya (Papain) Enzymes as Substrates for a Water-resistant Paper Bag Production” is the first ever research output of the Research Office of Colegio de Sto. Tomas-Recoletos that made it to a national competition.
